Abdelaziz Khlaifat was born in Wadi Mousa, Jordan, on December 1, 1965. After graduation from Aqaba high school in 1984 he was admitted to Moscow Institute of Oil and Gas, Moscow-Russia, where he obtained his BSc degree in Petroleum Engineering in May 1990. He completed his Master of Chemical Engineering and PhD in Chemical Engineering (Reservoir Engineering) from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-USA in December 1994 and May 1998, respectively. While being a graduate student he was an instructor at Robert Morris College in Chicago where he taught some computer science courses. During his work at Mutah University (1998-2010) Dr. Khlaifat had held different managerial positions (chairman of chemical engineering, vice dean of engineering and director of Prince Faisal Center for Dead Sea, Environmental and Energy Research) in addition to teaching different chemical engineering courses (e.g. momentum and heat transfer, mass transfer, programming, numerical analysis etc.). While in sabbatical leave at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University (2005-2006) he had held the positions of dean of engineering, an assistant to the president for planning and development, and the chairman of tendering committee. In 2009 he was promoted to a full professor of chemical engineering at Mutah University. On February 2010 he had taken up a position with Weatherford Oil Company in Dubai.Professor Khlaifat is actively involved in scientific research and development of novel methodologies and techniques in water, environmental and oil fields. He has authored/coauthored over fifty publications, including journal articles, book chapters and specialized conference proceedings in the area of flow through porous media, hydrocarbon reservoir engineering, tight gas reservoirs, NAPL transport, oil shale, photocatalysis, two phase flow modeling and simulation, Dead Sea.
