Welcome to the web site of Prince Faisal Center for Dead Sea, Environmental and Energy
Research (PFC-DSEER).
Prince Faisal Dead Sea Studies Center was
established in 2002. In February 2006, it was
restructured and renamed Prince Faisal Center
for Dead Sea, Environmental and Energy Research (PFC-DSEER)
after merging with two other centers, Water and
Environmental Studies Center and Energy Studies
Center, that were established in 2002 as well.
The merger was taken at the suggestion of the Deans’
Council of Mutah University in order to enable the
newly formed center to achieve, more effectively, one
of its primary goals: to identify and provide
direction to sources of information and data,
experimental and numerical, on Jordan water,
environmental, Dead Sea and energy issues. A second
reason for the merger was that of three centers
shared almost similar objectives that would be
reinforced by combining resources. The last
reason for the merger was that the centers
projects were overlapping extensively.
The Center supports Mutah University's mission through applied research projects
designed to address local water, energy and environmental necessities.
However, the southern region has been described as Jordan research-rich environment
because of its great diversity of natural resources.
Through collaborative work with our sponsors, the Center is/will-be able to assist in
the development of solutions to a variety of contemporary Dead Sea, water, energy and
environmental problems.
Since inception in 2002, the three Centers have focused on Dead Sea, Water, Energy and environmental
issues that require practical solutions. Our approach is simple: identify key problems, call for concept papers (proposals),
collaborate with experts, identify and test possible solutions, repeat as needed, and then seek new challenges.
The Center's areas of specialty can be found by clicking on Research Area (at left)
