Letter of the Dean of the Faculty

The Faculty of Medicine of Mutah University was founded in the 2001. This was in accordance with the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein, the Fourth King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. There was a need in the Kingdom to have more doctors and to have a medical school in the southern part of the country.

The establishment of this Medical School with its fellow medical schools in Amman, Irbid and in Zarqa forms a net for undergraduate medical education that  compliment each other and geographically cover the country.

The deanship is based in the main campus of the University with the administration and the basic sciences departments. The administration and lecture halls of the students and staff in the clinical sciences departments is based in the grounds of the Karak Teaching Hospital. The number of students enrolled at the faculty of medicine has increased tremendously over the last 12 years. The number admitted in the academic year 2001/2002 was 27 students while in the academic year 2013/2014 the number is 460.

The number of staff in both clinical and basic sciences has, also, increased from 12 in the academic year 2001/2002 to 60 full-time staff members and 85 part-time staff members in the academic year 2013/2014. We tremendously rely on the staff and hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Royal Medical Services for training our undergraduate students. A sizable number of our faculty staff are gaining their postgraduate training in both basic and clinical sciences in developed countries such as United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, Canada and Western Europe.

The graduates of the Faculty of Medicine at Mutah University joined various health sectors in Jordan and abroad. Many of our students have passed international exams such as USMLE, with very high scores. The feedback about their overall performance is very positive.

In this short period of the life of our medical school, we have conducted several international scientific conferences, workshops, and meetings which have been very successful.

In addition to the undergraduate medical degree, bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBBS), we are currently working towards other programs and postgraduate studies in various basic and clinical disciplines.

I acknowledge the dedication of our faculty colleagues, and administrative staff and wish our students a bright future.
