Department of Chemistry

Study Plans
Description of Courses

The Department of Chemistry at Mu'tah University was established in 1984/1985 as part of the Natural Science Department, Which Later became the Faculty of Science in 1990.
The science of Chemistry interprets the way elements unite to from compounds. The lifestyle we know today would not be the same without the understanding of chemistry. Chemistry contributes to future progress with the development of new drugs and materials to meet the requirements of expanding electronic industry. A chemist's job is varied; it may include quality analysis and checking the safety and purity of our air, food, and chemist's job is varied; it may include quality analysis and checking the safety and purity of our air, food, and water. It also makes us aware of dangers such as acid rain and the ozone depletion.
The Department offers a program of study leading to Bachelor degree as a single specialization and also a program for Master degree. In addition, the Department joins in instructing students of the other faculties such as Engineering, Agriculture, and Education.
The undergraduate program focuses on theoretical and practical courses in industrial, polymeric, and spectroscopic subjects. The graduate program offers both a thesis and non-thesis degree.
The Department is equipped with instruments like: FT-NMR, FT-IR, UV, HPLC, GLC, Atom's Absorption, Thermal Analyzer, and more, which are available for both undergraduates adulate use. The Department has both teaching and research laboratories.
Current research interests include polymer, analytical, organic, in organic, and physical chemistry. Research areas also include environmental studies on soil, air pollution, and water sources.
Other services, which involve consultations for companies in Southern Jordan and exhibitions of experiments, chemical reaction, and instruments at local schools, are offered by the Department in order to acquaint people with chemistry.
