Message from the President

It was on the twenty second of March 1981[nineteen eighty one] that a royal decree accorded the approval of a law stipulating that Mutah University be established as a national institution for both military and non-military higher education at Mutah in the Al-Karak Governorate. This approval came as an incarnation of the will of the Late King Hussein Bin Talal, [May Allah Bless His Soul], to erect an excellent academic institution in the southern region of the dear homeland.

As a dream of all Jordanians coming true, the establishment of Mutah University marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the truthful South. On a memorable day full of Jordanian sentiment, the Late King declared the birth of Mutah University both with a name and location that echoed all the sublime connotations of the immortal Mutah Battle.

Thus, we can read from the portfolio of patriotism this highly moving excerpt from the address made by the Late King on that particular day:

“Mutah has a dignified status in my soul, a highly esteemed position in my heart, a glorious shiver in my conception, as well as an abode of honor and belonging in my memory. It was right on the flats of Mutah that the first encounter took place between the Moslem Arabs and others. It was right on Mutah soil that the blood flowed of those who died martyrs like Zayd, Ja’far and Abdullah. Their martyrdom has accorded historical value for the soil of Mutah and entrusted in us the honor of safeguarding this pure soil driven by capacities we have acquired and capabilities of strength and power we have assembled. These martyrs have charged us with the responsibility of lifting the banner high and flying, a responsibility they themselves had shouldered and died for. It was in fidelity to all of these values that the site of Mutah University was selected. “

That day marked the beginning of the stride of Mutah University, and its forward march has ever since been in progress drawing its mission from the greatness of

the historical and civilized legacy of Al-Albayt [the descendants of the prophet] and inspired by the visionary guidance of its supporter and custodian His Majesty King Abdullah The Second.

Mutah University has so far stood as an untypical university as it is has inherited an honorable history and embraced a noble mission. Great, sincere, and loyal Jordanians including military leaders, politicians, thinkers, educationists have shouldered the responsibility of bringing the university into existence. The pioneers among these noble men were true builders. Since its inception, Mutah University has so far had a history with a rich chronicle of big events starting with the formation of Mutah Royal Assembly headed by his Excellency Ahmad Al-Lozi, and later by His Highness Shareef [later Prince] Zayd Bin Shaker. When the Board of Trustees was later assembled, it was headed by His Royal Highness Prince Talal Bin Mohammad and later by His Royal Highness Prince Faysal Bin Al-Hussein who carried the university to the frontiers of a new century of science and knowledge production. Currently, the board is headed by His Excellency Dr. Marouf Al-Bakheet.

As for the executive level of leadership, several respectful men of science and thought have taken office as presidents of the university. Deep gratitude is duly extended to these intellectual Jordanians and to their invaluable endeavor.

Today, Mutah University sits on the apex of a pyramid of real achievements. It has been so lucky that it is always under the care of His Majesty King Abdulla the Second. Today, the non-military campus of Mutah University, which was established in nineteen eighty six comprises twelve colleges and three deanships. The military campus is comprised by The Military College, The Police Academy, Prince Muna for Nurses, The College of Military Leadership and Staff Officer Training, The National Defense College and Prince Hassan College for Islamic Disciplines.

The twelve non-military colleges house forty eight undergraduate programs, twenty nine M.A programs, and five Doctoral programs meeting the needs of seventeen thousand students besides hundreds of military cadets and officers in the military campus. The number of alumni is well over forty thousand. Mutah University has a faculty of five hundred and fifty highly qualified embers and a staff of two thousand and three hundred people.

Mutah University is a guidepost for illumination and development, a conspicuous tributary of the economy of the developing Southern Jordan. The University is treading confidently into the next decade according to an elaborate strategic plan focusing on prospective fields of knowledge and embracing programs culminating in knowledge economy.

It is with the spirit of a family that we, at both campuses, are honored to express our utmost gratitude to His Majesty King Abdullah the Second Bin Al-Hussein for His Majesty’s guardianship and support for Mutah University.

We pledge before His Majesty to remain faithful to the country and loyal to its leader always praying to Allah for a strong and prosperous Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty.
