Mutah University's computing and network facilities service a large number of faculty, students, and staff. The university has a number of areas of potential liabilities in light of the legal responsibilities. This policy addresses the responsibilities of BUNET users and the University.

The following policies apply to anyone using computing resources provided by the University, including but not limited to Computer Center computer laboratories, campus network, and Internet access. All users who use Mutah University computer resources are assumed to read and accepted these policies.

All users have the responsibility to use the University computing systems in an effective, efficient, ethical, and lawful manner. Use of Mutah University's computer resources and network must be consistent with the mission of the University in support of public education, research, and public service.

This policy and procedure will be reviewed as needed by the Mutah University Computer Center with recommendations for revisions presented to the Rectorate.

COMPUTER CENTER LABORATORY COMPLEX USE POLICY

the Computer Center Laboratories are the platforms supplying necessary equipment for computing facilities. In the Computer Center Laboratories, Mutah students are enabled to send and receive electronic mail messages around the world, use Web services and other Internet tools to search and find needed information and to use Office programs.

The Computer Center Laboratory Complexes are supplying Internet access and computerized study place for students inside the campuses. There are 4 main computer laboratory complexes located in South, North, Ucaksavar and Kilyos Campuses.

Students have the obligation to use equipment, software, and facilities in Computer Center Labs in a responsible and professional manner. The users are expected to have already enough information about how to use a computer and softwares. The Computer Center does not offer any computer training program for the students. In labs only the licensed software programs of Computer Center are allowed to be used, please do not ask to install any unlicensed software on the computers.

The following guidelines apply to anyone using computing resources provided by Computer Center Laboratory Complex:
Loading of third-party software on computer systems in the computer labs is forbidden, unless authorized after a faculty member's written request by Computer Center Directorate.
The transfer of copyrighted materials to or from any system, or via the University network without the express consent of the owner of the copyrighted material may be a violation of Law.
University developed or commercially obtained network resources may not be re-transmitted outside of the University. Examples include licensed software and Library databases.
You are responsible for all activities to and from your account. It is your responsibility to protect your login and password. Do not allow someone else to share your account information for any reason. You should not disclose your password to anyone else, nor should you use the account and password of anyone else.
Any attempt to circumvent system security, uncover security loopholes, guess other passwords or access codes, or in any way gain unauthorized access to local or network resources is strictly forbidden and violation is grounds for immediate penalty from the University.
Under no circumstances will any individual be permitted to use their network connection or computing privileges for commercial purposes. You may not advertise any commercial products. Any commercial use of University facilities is explicitly prohibited by the University and is grounds for the loss of access privileges.
Inappropriate mass mailing is forbidden. This includes multiple mailings to newsgroups, mailing lists, or individuals, e.g. "spamming," "flooding," or "bombing."
Displaying obscene, lewd, or sexually harassing images or text in a public computer facility or location that can be in view of others is forbidden. The University environment is not the appropriate place for this kind of material.


In the Laboratories;
Only Mutah University members are allowed to make use of the facilities.


Users must apply to the operators for reservation with their student number.
Users must show their BU Card, if asked at the CC Public facilities' entrance. No other identification will be accepted.
Each user may have a reservation for a total of 1.5 hours per day.
Lab reservations may be requested for the same day.
The reservation will be cancelled after ten minutes if the student does not arrive on time.
Only one student per computer is allowed.
Work areas should be kept clean and uncluttered.
Conversations should be kept as quiet as possible
Absolutely NO drinking, smoking, or eating.
It is forbidden to play any games.
Cellular phones must be turned off.
Report all system problems to computer lab operators. Do NOT attempt to repair or tamper with equipment.
Do NOT remove, rearrange, disconnect, or deface any equipment.

Operators
The operators are in charge of maintaining the daily operation of the laboratories. They are there to manage the appointments, maintain printing supplies and help with equipment problems. The operators are not required to have a full knowledge of all the software packages available in the laboratories, but they will try to help answer questions if possible.

and you will get the response at least in two office days.

Floppy
Users must check for viruses on every floppy diskette before they use it. Reports, assignments and other projects may not be left on the computer hard drives and must be saved on floppy diskette. Diskettes are not supplied for users of the computer laboratories, you have to bring them. You will need 3 1/2" high density diskettes.

Viruses
Laboratory computers are protected automatically by a central antivirus software. No virus allowed to run and neither to exist. Be sure that your personal files are clean from viruses. Any infected file will be directly cleaned or deleted if cleaning process was not achieved. It is your responsibility to bring clean files.

Lost and Found Diskette and Other Materials
If you have lost your diskette and other materials, please contact the operators where you believe you left it. If we find a lost diskette, it will be kept in the operators' room. But remember that someone else can take your material and does not report to the operators.

Printers
There are laser printers located in laboratory complexes.

Computers Connected to the University Network (BUNET)

The University's computers and networks are a shared resource, for use by all faculty, staff and students. Computers and networks can provide access to resources on and off campus, as well as the ability to communicate with other users worldwide. Such open access is a privilege, and requires that individual users act responsibly. Users must respect the rights of other users, respect the integrity of the systems and related physical resources, and observe all relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
University-owned computing equipment must be used for scholarly purposes. Access to and use of Mutah University computer facilities, electronically stored data, software, and the Internet shall comply with the rules and regulations of the University. Misuse of these computer facilities, networks, software, and the Internet are violations of law and may be charged as such.
