The Department was established in 1994. Enrolment of students started in 1994/1995; and the first graduation was in 1998. The Department has 13 Ph.D. staff members specializing in fruit tree production, vegetables production, seed technology, soil science, plant pathology, entomology, forestry, range management, irrigation & drainage, field crops, machinery, agricultural economics and plant breeding. Beside five M. Sc. teaching assistants and eight lab. Instructors. There are several teaching and research laboratories, which include soil science, plant production, entomology, plant pathology and a general purpose research lab In addition, the department utilizes several facilities of the Agricultural Research Station for teaching and research purposes. The Department has on going research projects supported by University & by the Higher Council for Science and Technology. Vision: Plant Production Department aspires to be an academic and scientific leading site in the fields of vegetable and field crops, horticulture, forestry and rangeland and management of available natural resources in order to progress to the levels of excellence in education and scientific research and the dissemination of scientific research locally and globally. Mission: Participation in the development of agricultural production through the development of graduates (agricultural engineers) who are highly qualified in plant production sciences, and implementation of studies and basic and applied research programs that serve the local community and provide technical advice to solve agricultural problems and publication of the results of agricultural research locally and globally. Objectives: 1- To prepare graduates qualified in the areas of plant production for working in the different agricultural sectors. 2- To carry out scientific research in the basic and applied areas of plant production, which aims to study the problems facing the improvement and increasing plant production and provide appropriate solutions for it. 3- To contribute to the development of the agricultural awareness of farmers and those interested in the field of agriculture and the dissemination of information in the field of modern agricultural production centers and collaboration with institutions working in this field.
