History of the University
On February 2, 1985, His Majesty King Hussien Bin Talal
inaugurated the
In 1986, the Council of Higher
Education decided that a civilian wing be established at Mutah University to
respond to the needs of the local community in particular and the country's
needs in general in terms of:
1- Creating opportunities for higher education, improving its quality, and
promoting its level.
2-Providing the country with
specialists in the fields of science, technology, arts, and fine arts to meet
future challenges.
3- Deepening the students' national loyalty as well as
developing their talents and emphasizing traits of leadership and productive
citizenship.
4- Encouraging scientific research, especially that which
is necessary for the industries in the southern part of the country.
The Civilian Wing at Mutah comprises, in addition to the
Deanship of Research and Higher Studies, twelve academic faculties.

The Council of Deans, the councils of faculties,
and the councils of departments were also formed in accordance with the law of
Jordanian Universities.
